Sent AwayLOCATION: Washington , DupontYEAR: 1972TAGS: high schoolPUBLISHED: April 10, 2008I had gotten into a little bit of trouble in my Senior year of high school. (And I suppose the phrase "little bit" is relative, depending on who you talk to) So I ended up graduating early and essentially getting sent away to live with my brother and his wife in Dupont Wshington. It was a very small town in Washington. Now don't get me wrong, I loved my brother and adored his wife. But all my friends and my boyfriend were all home, two states away. It was a sad and lonely time for me. That first week I was there, it rained non stop, it felt like the drearist time in my life. I was after all 17 and my world had come to an end. Then one morning I woke up and it wasn't raining. In fact the air was extremly clear and smelled so good from the open window, I decided to go for a walk and take a look at my new surroundings. I grabbed my transistor radio, turned it on, found a station and set out on my mini adventure. Get Together came on as I walked down the drive and turned the corner and there as the clouds parted, stood Mt Rainier, in all it's glory. Huge and beautful and right there almost close enough to touch. I was filled with a sense of wonder and awe. I simply had no idea it was there, let alone that close. Looking back, I guess seeing something that beautiful imerging from behind the clouds, was just the thing I needed and the symbalism just struck me. With the Youngbloods playing in the background, I realized two very important things. One, my parents had made a wise choice for me, getting me away from the pit I had been falling into and I was only 17, I had my whole life ahead of me. I spent the rest of the time at my brothers enjoying the company, exploring the state of Washington and just in general getting used to being out of high school and making plans for my future. It turned out to be a wonderful time in my life.
