Could We Listen to Something Else, Please?

LOCATION: Whatever car my Dad was driving at the time , Pittsburgh, PA

YEAR: 1997

TAGS: John Mellencamp, John Cougar, Small Town, Dad

PUBLISHED: February 18, 2008

My parents severely damaged my brain during those years. I started to think that my Dad didn't like anyone else but John Cougar Mellencamp. All day, every day, he would listen to Johnny, and sing along, expecting me to do the same. You have to love him for trying, but I just got so gosh-darn sick of Johnny and his voice, I could've sworn I dreamed of kicking him in the unmemtionables one night.

When I think of this song, I think of how much I wanted my Dad to play something else for a change. Sorry, Johnny, nothing personal, I'm just not that much into small-town country rock with that darn accent of his. I guess you could say it was southern, I'm not one hundred percent sure. Either way, it was annoying.

Why did my Dad love these songs so much? As if he just couldn't stand to listen to anything else. You would've thought that Johnny was his life-force, and he needed a dose just to stay alive. Sometimes I would've half-heartedly suggest we'd listen to something else other than Johnny, but my Dad just wouldn't have it. Oh well, it was his car CD player, not mine.

I'm not really sure if my Dad still plays this album or not, but I know that the next time I hear it playing over the stereo, I'll more than likely laugh at all the times I spent wishing Dad would play something else. It was a hopeless wish to say the least.
