College "Relaxin g"LOCATION: On the couch , HoustonYEAR: 1992TAGS: college, studyingPUBLISHED: March 20, 2008I spent many hours on the couch at the house we rented in college across from campus spinning this disc over and over and over again. Since we were so close to campus, everyone stopped by between classes to hang out, pre-party, whatever. And we had a Nintendo. And Super Mario Karts. The game went on constantly all day. It was so stupid it was fun. Plush was at full volume pumping through a pair of giant Cerwin Vega 3-ways while you destroyed your thumbs on those controllers. There was an obvious incongruence in the music and the activity, but whatever. STP was new. It, along with Soundgarden and Alice in Chains beat down all the hair-band garbage from the years before and we loved it. My only regret is the association with that game. And that party-stained couch. I'm not sure I regret the lost study time. Or the time spent with friends.
