Being a GirlLOCATION: Stourhead , SomersetYEAR: 2007TAGS: girl, StourheadPUBLISHED: November 15, 2008Sometimes I use the phrase "being a girl" in a derogatory way. But I suppose I shouldn't, because I am. But when I say "being a girl", I mean those irrational emotions (particularly in relation to men) and when we plan ahead (again irrationally) for marriage etc. Pride & Prejudice is one of my favourite books and I wouldn't have thought that I would have liked this film, particularly as Kiera Knightley is cast as Elizabeth Bennett. But I love the story too much and Jane Austen is such an enigma that I can't help either watching or reading her stories and considering them as an interesting insight into her as a person. Or perhaps I am "being a girl" and enjoying the fact that it is a love story. This particular track reminds me of a National Trust property in Somerset called Stourhead. Here, again, "I was being a girl". I said to myself upon leaving that I did not want to return to the place unless it was to be proposed to (and how would I organise that?! - see what I mean about irrationality) or with my children. It was one of the most romantic places I think I have ever been to. And it is in the P&P film (where Darcy first proposes in the rain). I hope that I get to go back.
