ScreamingLOCATION: Car , FloridaYEAR: 1997TAGS: driving, sing alongPUBLISHED: February 15, 20081997 was another transition year for me. I closed my business and moved in with family in my hometown for a few months while I found a job and new place to live. After two years of freedom, I was suddenly having to call if I would be home late and sharing a bathroom with my thirteen-year-old cousin. Twenty and thirteen turned out to be very similar experiences for both of us. In some ways, I felt like I was thirteen again with all the new rules and uncertainty. We spent hours talking and driving and sorting out the confusion in our lives. Our favorite pasttime, especially after a heart break or bad day was to get in the car and drive down deserted roads. There we would sing at the top of our lungs along with "Hey Jealousy." Over and over and over. We always kept the windows down so we could sing into the wind. By the time we made it home again, the web of thoughts in our heads would be undone. I still turn on this song when I feel the need to scream. I was feeling a little nostalgic last summer after an extended weekend with that same cousin. For her birthday, I made a mix CD of our songs. "Hey Jealousy" was the first one of the list. Everyone else thought the song choice was a bit strange, but she knew what it meant.
