It is not always a personLOCATION: the basement rec room , Shaker Heights, OhioYEAR: 1974TAGS: material, self-actualization, immaterial, answer, lovePUBLISHED: April 23, 2008Ah the good ole days when formative years are behind you, I am eight in the year of this memory, and you start to adopt a view of the world that is mostly everyone else's, but hopeful in becoming exclusively your own. You begin formulating simple question.s Me, I questioned everything from why mushrooms are the colors they are (grandma & I had a mushroom picking hobby between us that is a slew of other song memories) to how come yelling and crying were mostly what love brought out in my family. Since love from people and beautiful happy weddings led to sometimes miserable marital relations, I found love being obscured in my close family-circle. I sought an outlet for defining 'love' my way. In lyrics of what a few people might classify as 'dumb songs' by most people's standards, I discovered most of the things I looked for were already inside me. I loved trees, I loved water, I loved sand, I loved listening to the old folks talk in their native language. I found I loved quite a few things and those things I associated with led me to believe, 'yes, love must be the answer', but it is not always a person that stirs this emotion. Love for me was a feeling evoked by something that held my attention for a very long time, it was something I could neither see always clearly, feel always directly but yet could sense it intensely when I laughed, painted, played, walked, ran, swam, ate and of course, cried. As I grew older away from the 'formative-year yoke', I studied my surroundings. It was the 70's a time when adults were very alive, free in their doing and saying, especially truth even if it hurt someone. A very real eye-opening time for me now that I had to share the threesome, me dad and mom with a sibling--now almost four when this song first came into the livingroom. I was pleased with the threesome, I was pleased with my passions and I was pleased with the ebb and flow of childhood coming into early adolescence knowing 'love was the answer' to anything I could not handle or appreciate. Gooey feel good kind of tunes were popping up all over the radio but you had to be watching television to catch this one when it first came out. I loved the beat, fondly recall the lyrics being an aid to defining love in all its glory, and learning something about myself. I was very sensitive to the subtle energies then and showing a certain respect for things is part of the love I learned to cultivate with the seeds sown from the very first time I heard this catchy tune. If you are happy in what you do and love the life you are living because it is the answer & finding it is the greatest gift of all !
