Oh Brother!

LOCATION: Disney World , Orlando, FL

YEAR: 1978

TAGS: childhood, brother

PUBLISHED: January 16, 2008

My brother and I both really dig music and were instilled with love for the art form at birth. By the time I hit the 6th grade I was fairly independent in my search for interesting and adventurous music. However, between 1978 and 1984, my brother did introduce me to a fair number of artists. The only problem was that most of them sucked!

To be fair, my brother (who shall remain anonymous) now has great taste in music and his love for and knowledge about opera, classical, rock and jazz is impressive. But during his impressionable tween years it was frightening. Once again, to be fair, there were some good turn ons, so I've divided the list into 3 categories...THE GOOD, THE BAD and THE UGLY. (sorry, bro!)

THE GOOD

Frankie Goes to Hollywood

English Beat

Joe Jackson

THE BAD

Kiss

Quiet Riot

Duran Duran

THE UGLY

Kenny Loggins

Basia

Jonathan Butler

Spyro Gyra (ouch!...he got me thinking this was great jazz. we even went to see them play live at the old Tower Theater on Westheimer in Houston)

Barry Manilow (he was obsessed with the song Copa Cabana on our trip to Disneyworld in 1978. he was 9, i was 7. he had me diggin' the Manilow so much I even loved I Write the Songs and Mandy)
