Every now and then...
I just said that and the first thing to pop in my head was Bonnie Tyler and Total Eclipse Of The Heart. Who can't get enough of this song? And, as I chuckle, the music video for this song?
Last year i had a full blown retro week. This song came on the oldies station I was listening to to try to fall asleep. I'm kind of embarassed to say that I've heard all the time growing up, enjoyed but had never inquired about it or gave it much thought. It took years and the right emotional state for it to click in me.
I was even surprised this was Bonnie Tyler because, hey, I grew up with another Bonnie Tyler song too which is another story all together. I'm convinced; no one sings like Bonnie tyler. She has a voice of sold gold. I've seen attempts - there are always attepts. In fact a few days ago I watched two classically trained vocalists put a spin to it, singing in three the song in three different languages. Interesting and I was excited about it, but when I comes down to it and the singing, no one does it like Bonnie Tyler. Yet one can always try...
I was cooking dinner in the kitchen with my friend and flatmate last year. What's cooking without some music? I pulled up my iTunes and gave it a party shuffle. What would come on but this Total Eclipse Of The Heart, which it turns out my friend gave me the "I'm going to kill you" expression in jest known only between us. it turns out she certainly wasn't unfamilar with the song - had to sing it for school chorus as a kid.
Being the kooks we knew we were and loved, we spent the whole night trying to cooking/attempting to sing to the song. Haha. We were no Bonnies. No doubt she was closer to than i was, as we drove right over me like a crocking frog during those crazy high notes. That would be one of our saner hilarious bonding moments. I impetuously get this laughing going on and without exception, there's no holding back to this song.
That would be "Glee" as in a Glee Club.
