Learning To DriveLOCATION: Big Ass Dodge Dart, New YorkYEAR: 1985TAGS: Learning To DrivePUBLISHED: February 7, 2008I have to admit, my Dad had pretty good taste in music back in the day. He listened to the "cool, boozey" Frank Sinatra (the Reprise years), America, The Byrds, John Lennon (and Yoko Ono unfortunately), Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole. In the fall of '85 as I was about to turn 15 my dad decided he was going to teach me how to drive in his GINORMUS, green, Dodge Dart; it handled like the Titanic. Never, ever have a parent teach you how to drive, it'll leave both of you scarred for at least the rest of your teen years. The only saving grace was the fact that my Dad had the 8-Track of Don McLean's American Pie stuck in the deck. Whenever I'd hear him scream "brake, brake, speed-up, slow-down" I'd just tune into "them good ole boys drinking whiskey and rye" ... good stuff. Although, looking back I'm not sure if learning to drive listening to this was a good idea: So bye-bye, miss american pie.Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. And them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye Singin, this'll be the day that I die. This'll be the day that I die.
