She's The One

LOCATION: Somewhere near the beach , Jacksonville

YEAR: 1989

TAGS: Just Like Heaven

PUBLISHED: July 18, 2008

It was the summer of 1989 and I was 16 and at a friend's pool party when I met her. She was georgeous, tall, thin, with wavy blonde hair, a wicked smile painted bright red and an attitude to match. I was carrying around the iPod of our generation, a dual cassette "boombox" with the Cure's album Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me on full blast. We had left the pool and were wandering around looking for something to do. It was hot, we were bored and the girls in the group were putting down the boys as we tried desperately to get their attention. There were four guys and four girls and no one was hooking up although the boys tried their best. Finally, Just Like Heaven came on and one of the girls ran up to me singing loudly and slightly off key "Show me show me show me how you do that trick, the one that makes me scream she said, the one that makes me laugh (use bad english accent here)she said, threw her arms around my head." Siezing my chance, I started singing along with her, thoroughly annoying everyone else and maybe even frightening the neighbours. Almost 20 years later we are married with two kids and we still love it when a DJ throws that song on. Thank you Robert Smith for helping me find the one.
