All night longLOCATION: My living room , St. AugustineYEAR: 2005TAGS: PompeiiPUBLISHED: July 18, 2008Shortly before my daughter was born, I purchased the Pink Floyd DVD Live in Pompeii. It is a spectacular performance filmed amongst the ruins of Pompeii with little more than some mirrors, lights, 4 guys, one dog and one ridiculously large sound system. When my daughter was born she had difficulty breathing and maintaining her oxygen levels and was sent to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NIC-U) for a few days. When she finally came home, I could not bare to leave her alone and spent the first several weeks staying up all night with her sleeping on my chest. My wife stayed with her during the day. Our first night together, I put in the Pink FLoyd Pompeii DVD and rocked her to sleep to the sounds of Echoes. She awoke several times during the film and I can only imaginehow the music she was hearing as she drifted in and out of sleep, only a couple of days old, affected the wiring in her brain. I think I watched it twice that night. I was so blown away by it that I had to immediately start it over again at the beginning. She slept through most of it but I'm sure it's embedded subconsciously in her mind. I can only hope it will help promote her creativity and not turn her into a raving lunatic. Time will tell. If you have only dabbled in Pink Floyd, I highly the Live in Pompeii DVD. This is FLoyd post Syd andpre Wall. Just amazing talent making incredible music.
