Haunted by a SongLOCATION: here and there , Hollywood, CAYEAR: 1967TAGS: Doors, odd events, troublePUBLISHED: April 29, 2008I was a big "Doors" fan, in lust with Jim Morrison, as was almost every other girl of my age. "Light My Fire" was, for a time, a song which, quite literally, haunted me. It started innocently enough...innocently enough for 1967...when my boyfriend and I had made our way up through the Hollywood Hills to an abandoned house which had served as the location for several movies. It was in ruins; marble pieces scattered everywhere, nothing but the floor remained unbroken. We spread out a blanket, turned the transistor radio to a rock station, and smoked some weed. We made love and, naked, smoked some more. Suddenly "Light My Fire" started playing, and seconds later a police helicopter appeared overhead. We scurried into our clothes and hightailed it out of the area. Fortunantely, we got out before the police got in. While driving my boyfriend home (in my 67 GTO) the radio was playing "Light My Fire" again, when the song ended, the radio died. Over the next six months, the only time the car radio worked was when "Light My Fire" was playing. More than one morning I'd awaken to the sound of that song blasting from my car, and it always pressaged some unpleasant or dangerous event. Needless to say, I came to both rely upon and detest the song simultaneously.
