I was glancing at the newspaper that Labor Day weekend when I spotted this little paragraph in the Chicago Sun-Times Dennis De Young performing at this fest for a suburb NW of the city I was bored so I packed up my wife , my daughter who was 21 at the time into the car and drove out to see someone I grew up listening to.
God For a free concert it turned out to be quite a memorable evening, I remember when I first heard the song Lady on WLS 89 AM and when I heard it was a band from Chicago it made me even more proud I bought the 45 (single) and played over and over, The first LP I ever purchased with my own money was The Grand Illusion, but I always missed seeing them play live do not get me wrong I went to my fair share of concerts in my teen years but always missed the Hometown Boys.
Seeing this guy twenty years later and his voice was fantastic his back up band was great and just hearing all the old songs brought back great feelings. even my twenty year old daughter recognized some of the songs since the old man used to make her listen to them while she was growing up. Dennis hair is all grey but his voice survived and the evening ended with Come sail Away during the fireworks which was all good for me.
