Live 8 - was it enough to save Sting?LOCATION: Hyde Park , LondonYEAR: 2005TAGS: Tantric, Smug, Self-RighteousPUBLISHED: March 19, 2008It was hailed as 'the greatest show on Earth', and was shown by more than 140 TV channels across the world, but did it make any difference? Whilst the public watched the Live 8 shows in their millions, it's still not known if the 10 concerts that took place on Saturday will be enough to influence the G8 leaders to solve one of the biggest problems facing the world: how to stop Sting from disappearing up his own arse. Live 8 organiser Bob Geldof publically stated that the events successfully highlighted the issue, but privately he remains concerned that the politicians will be prepared to let the ex-Police singer suffocate in his own sphincter. 'The problem is that he hasn't done a decent song in years' one leading politcian told us, 'and that makes it hard for us. I mean, he did the same songs at Live 8 as he did at Live Aid. Which proves the point really.' Shows were held in 10 cities, including London, Philadelphia, Paris, Berlin, Johannesburg, Rome and Moscow, and organisers estimated that 85% of the world's population watched some of the event. Whether it was enough to save Sting from public and political indifference remains to be seen. Certainly 2006's release, Songs from the Labyrinth, which featured music from the first Elizabethan period seems to suggest that all those concerts were in vain...
