The Chauffer

Duran Duran has a song on the Rio album called The Chauffer. It is the very last track on the first side(I had the tape) and the song is a mechanic's wet dream. It involves
driving around with a beautiful woman and I can imagine myself being the guy who is with her. We are going somewhere special, all dressed up and she, again, is darned
gorgeous.

And the sun drips down/ bedding heavy behind/ the front of your dress
All shadowy lined/And the droning engine/ throbs in time/ with your beating heart

I first heard the song at Alternative Night at Molly McGuires in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I was a Sunday night regular for a while. Songs of Duran Duran were played
a lot, as well as music by other "alternative" groups such as Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and the Folk Implosion. Duran Duran, while not really considered an
alternative group, was a fan favorite of the Sunday Night crew. Girls on Film was another DD song that had heavy play. But for some reason, the throbbing engine bit
got me all warm and fuzzy(or it could have been the 2-4-1 beer special as well)and made me think of any one of those Sunday night gals that I could someday go out with,
all dressed up and going to someplace special.

The song's music plays on after the lyric had finished and seems to become this mantra of flutes and invokes the feeling of a festive middle ages jam, married, of course, with
Nick Rhodes' perfect synthesizer work. It must be one of the most infective Duran Duran songs I have ever known. Check it out(and I mean the entire song)
 and you'll hear what  mean.
