Huey Lewis and the News hit the scene in 1984 or so with "The Heart of Rock and Roll," performing it on live TV at the Grammys. The song has distinctly been in my head for the past 24 years because of its infectious lyrics in which many American cities are mentioned including the big ones of course like New York, Chicago and San Francisco. "New York, New York/ is in everything they say/ there's no place I'd rather be Where else can you do a half-a-million things/all at a quarter to three?" And then there's the version that I like. The one that made it to airplay only a few times where Mr. Huey Lewis actually mentions cities I've been to and lived in! Minneapolis! Milwaukee! It's got to be the rarest of rare songs where an artist releases a hit song and then releases it again with different lyrics to fit the goegraphical areait's being played in! I loved it when I heard the original version, and I loved it even more when he began thinking of we midwesterners, the plain folk, the little ones, the fans! If you used to watch the "A-Team," in the 80's there's a wonderful episiode that breaks in with the song itself, and who is lip-synching it perfectly? Murdock, that's who! Huey Lewis is not old News though and he hasn't gone away. Huey had a role in a movie not too long ago with none other than Oscar winner and beauty, Gwyneth Paltrow called "Duets." He's also made a few recent albums that have been minor hits on the charts since his gig as a Karaoke King in "Duets." Let's hear it for Mr. Huey Lewis!
