The song "Elvira" by The Oak Ridge Boys is one that will always be with me. My mom has always been a country fan, her dad(my grandpa) having played old
honkey tonk piano and guitar music in bars in an act with his sisters singing backup before she was born, and then later on an organ my grandparents had in
their living room. I loved it, especially the drum solo button. It sounded so real to me!

So mom grew up with country music and eventually found her favorites such as Kenny Rogers, The Statler Brothers, Alabama and The Oak Ridge Boys.

One summer, for vacation, my parents bought an eight track player clock radio which was pretty heavy duty back then. They also bought several albums to go
with the player(it was bought as an impulse buy, I think) and of those eight track tapes were a Kenny Rogers, The Statler Brothers and The Oak Ridge Boys.

The vocals were what caught me, especially the bass singer's. And the song itslef had funny lyrics, especially the chorus, which brough me back to the days
when I'd watch The Lone Ranger reruns.

Elvira
Elvira
My Heart's On Fire
For Elvira

Eyes that look like heaven
Lips like cherry wine

That girl can sho'nuff make my little light shine
I get a funny feeling/Up and down my spine
Cuz I know that Elvira's Mine

I'm singing Elvira
Elvira
My heart's on fire
Elvira

Giddy up a oomp-pow a oomp-pow a mow mow
Giddy up a oomp-pow a oomp-pow a mow mow

High o Silver and away!

Not to mention the fact that Elvira is also the name of the beautiful Mistress of the Dark, Elvira who hosts horror movies and
is a curveaceous bomb-shell. The song also made me think of her every time I heard it. Recently I went to the library and found
some of my old favorite country songs and made a mix CD, and which song is number one? Elvira, of course!
