Disco Duck!LOCATION: Home , Racine, WIYEAR: 1979TAGS: childhoodPUBLISHED: March 10, 2008My sister and I managed to get a record that we were supposed to "share." It had to be about 1979 or so when disco dancing was all the craze. The record? Rick Dees' "Disco Duck." Our favorite song? YMCA by the Village People. We loved making the letters with our hands(I was in Kindergarten at the time.)We loved singing "Macho Man" also, since I was all about being a cool dude. I kept a comb with me(it didn't hurt my grandpa was a barber and my dad also kept a comb on him at all times). I still keep one with me. We had "The Fonz," and of course, John Travolta's Vinnie Barbarino, who was cool but dumb as a rock! It was funny, and a macho man, to me, was one that was so cool, he wore gold necklaces and had his shirt open down to his navel. He got all the ladies as well. I had no idea that the Village People were catering to more people than just guys who get the girls. I was also five, so who can blame me? So every time I hear those songs at a wedding reception(which have become massive hits with the wedding crowd), I shake my head and chuckle, and maybe, somehow find myself making the letters with my hands, if not for the memory of the song from when I was a little kid, but rather to become again the little kid I once was.
