Camping With ColdplayLOCATION: Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, WI, Fish Creek, Door County, WIYEAR: 1999TAGS: camping, summerPUBLISHED: February 1, 2008I went camping for a week long to a state park in the “thumb” of Wisconsin’s Door County, called Peninsula State Park. A beautiful area with bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan on both sides of the peninsula, the park and what seemed to be the world.
I was the guest of a couple I had known in college who had invited me to come for some time during the week, and having been there years earlier and loving it, I accepted.
We would sit nights and play card games such as Euchre or Sheepshead. Sometimes Matt would take out his chess set and we’d play chess and talk about our sometimes not-so-great lives, the universe and how we can’t be the only living beings living on a planet having a life. And of course we had to have music going on the in background. Matt brought his new Coldplay album(their debut), and I had hardly heard them previously, but after listening on the trip for several nights, sometimes a little drunk, sometimes feeling difficulty brewing between myself and my friend’s wife( I sensed she was having problems with Matt and I spending so much “guy” time together), Coldplay would save us.
Yellow was the only song I was vaguely familiar with, the vision of Chris Martin running on the beach in the rain. I had visions of myself doing the same, away from all of my problems, just for one day.
