Birthday!LOCATION: Reeve Memorial Union , OshkoshYEAR: 1993TAGS: birthdaysPUBLISHED: July 14, 2008When I was going to school at UW-Oshkosh in the early to mid 1990's, my roommate and I got hooked on going to a weekly dance held Saturday nights in the school union called "Nite Class." Usually the same DJ's played a lot of the day's popular music at the time. Standards were Pump Up The Jam, by Technotronic, Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode, Head Like a Hole, by Nine Inch Nails, Jump by Kriss Kross and the list goes on. But whenever it was announced that it was someone's birthday(usually done by request), they played one of my personal favorites: Birthday, by the Beatles. When it was my actual birthday once, I remember my roommate and I decided to wear ties and shorts, even though it was the tail end of winter. It was stupid, but we didn't care. We were out to have a little fun, as well as to attract a little attention. Well, attention we found in the form of a future wife (my roommate met his wife, Dawn) and a I found girlfriend (a short-but-sweet romance with a beautiful long-haired girl named Sondra, who thought I danced "rad."). In the end, it was all worth going the extra mile to celebrate my "Birthday" and to have a good time.
