Running the TableLOCATION: Bar , MonticelloYEAR: 1993TAGS: friends, weekends, bars, mix tapePUBLISHED: September 2, 2008I used to shoot a lot of pool between 1988-1996, I'd hate to see how much I would spend on the weekends. When I lived with my parents, I bet it was a good 20% of my paycheck. After buying drinks, getting rolls of quarters, a pack of smokes, and filling the Jukebox (when I listened to it)... it adds up. Whenever I shot pool, I had a walkman with me, as I got sick of the crap coming from the Jukebox, especially when people dump a lot of cash in there and repeat stuff too much. One of the songs I had on a mix tape was this song, along with a lot of other alternative tracks. I used to play the regulars quite a bit, and once in a while a few newbies. I remember one night, I was on a roll like you wouldn't believe, I never ran the table that long before, and it was a shock to some of my friends. I remember playing this girl who was about my age, she was good, and probably would've knocked me off my game if it were any other night. I started singing lyrics from this song and she had no idea what I was doing. A friend of mine was with me that night, and explained to her it helped me focus on my game. She was good looking, and if I wasn't taken at the time, I would've offered her a date instead of a drink. Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of that smok-filled bar, that good looking girl, and the amount of time I spent up there shooting pool and just having fun. I haven't shot a game of pool in about 5 years or so, I need to pick that up again.
