Girl Power!LOCATION: The Big Easy Lounge , Augusta, GAYEAR: 2006TAGS: Spice Girls, karaoke, WannabePUBLISHED: February 27, 2008There is a list of songs that I actually enjoy, but no one knows I enjoy. Those songs go completely against the genre that I usually listen to and usually stay secret from my friends. Only when slightly inebriated will you admit to liking these songs. One song that will always remind me of my first karaoke bar visit is Wannabe, one of those very songs. And that night, more than just my friends knew I liked the song. I was watching one of my friends children over the course of a few months. She let me stay at her house where there was cable TV, a rarity at my house, and anything else you could want. Then to pay me back, she took me to a nice little bar she worked at, and informed me I could put everything on her tab and not worry about it. Well a few drinks into the night, I wanted to sing karaoke, and found someone as crazy as I was to do it with me. Of course while going through the song book I found Wannabe, and the choice was made. We went up, and when the opening chords came on, we had everyones attention. No one could believe we were actually about to sing it, but we did. I never even had to look at the karaoke screen, and sang the fast parts so well that Posh Spice would have been jealous. The best part is that we got the loudest applause of the night. From then on, one of my favorite secret songs always reminds me of the night when embarrassment never crossed my mind.
