Can't Live With 'Em...LOCATION: Beach, Amelia Island, FLYEAR: 2004TAGS: Chumbawamba, beach, family reunionPUBLISHED: February 7, 2008My family wasn’t really the “family reunion” type. In fact, the simple fact that we had one was a complete accident. Part of my family had decided to go to Jacksonville for a Spring Break while the rest of us, not really sure of our family’s plan, went to Amelia Island, only a few miles apart. Needless to say, we ended up at our so called “family reunion”. It was an amazing time, as about ¾ of my family are just as sarcastic as I am. It was the first time I’d ever done a barbeque on such a large scale, especially with people that I could barely put up with one at a time, much less twenty all at once. My cousin, who was pregnant at the time, shares the record with me as the All Time Sarcastic Master of the Universe. Most the people my age, including my two cousins, my pregnant sister, and my little sister all went to the beach to escape the drunken ramblings of fifteen 40-year-olds. The best part of the day on the beach was when Tubthumping came on. The song was catchy, but it wasn’t nearly as great as when my cousin looked at my pregnant sister and sang in perfect key with the song “She gets knocked up, but she gets down again. Ain’t ever gonna keep her up…”. We all died laughing, including my sister. No matter how many family reunion tapes I happen to see on TV, only Tubthumping can take me right back to that beach, laughing at my pregnant sister like a punk.
