My Sweet Lord, Here He Comes...LOCATION: Grandpa's House , CamdenYEAR: 2006TAGS: Death, Lord, Heaven, Beatles, GrandpaPUBLISHED: March 10, 2008My Grandpa was in remission for about 8 months and then the cancer came back. This time it had gotten to his brain and he only had weeks left. My grandfather and my grandmother came to this country with 3 kids in the sixtys. They left Ireland, stayed in England for a few years and then came to America where they made there homes. When The Beatles became big in the U.S. my family were their biggest fans.  My grandparents loved them, their kids loved them, and us grandchildren loved them. Constant debates over, who the "best" Beatle was... Yoko Ono...their best album...touched our holidays and get togethers. So when the whole family sat there in the livingroom the day my grandfather was dying, various Beatles albums(as a group along with solo projects) played in the background. It was a five-disc changer and in it we had: Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, Imagine, All Things Must Pass, and The White Album. Hospice was in an out all day telling us that it would be any hour now. The priest came in and gave my grandfather his last sacrament. But he didn't go...Everytime we thought it was time, he would take a breath. Everyone was very emotional and it was a very long and sad wait. We wanted to be there. After about 6 hours of the whole family hovering over him...crying...saying goodbyes...."My Sweet Lord" came through the speakers. My grandpa opened his eyes and looked accross the room past us all and took his last breath. It was very peaceful, and calm. George's voice rang through the room, lightly and I believe that my grandpa heard it. I think that he was waiting for that song to play. He had always been a man that liked to make a grand entrance and I think that he thought there no other way to meet the Lord. Not to mention, that my grandfather always said that it was George that was the "best" Beatle. Now, he could tell him, himself.
