Senior Blues (Of The College Variety)

So now that this song has been massively overplayed on the radio, it's lost much of its appeal for me. And apparently it was around for a lot longer than it was popular... typical. But it does have a few good memories for me. This was during my last year of college, when I was in denial that I was being booted out the door in just a few months. Hey, these had been the best four years of my life. Why would I want to leave? My friend and I, who had been up all night working on our theses, decided to walk across campus to get coffee. But first, it was imperative that we memorize the lyrics to this song. I can't remember why exactly, but I do remember that we frightened some poor sophomore in the computer cluster away (just kidding... he was a friend of ours). My friend has a great voice... me, not so much, but that doesn't stop me as much as it should. So, once having learned the song, we headed out for coffee, sharing my headphones (one ear bud for each of us), and singing along with the song on repeat. In public. Yes, we got a few weird looks... but for the most part we were ignored. In retrospect, I did a lot of obnoxious things as a senior, when you're (sort of) allowed to act like you've stopped caring, go swimming in the fountains, rampage around campus at odd hours... and this memory kind of encapsulates all that for me.
