Destination CollegeLOCATION: Car , CaliforniaYEAR: 2003TAGS: college, fears, friendships, Postal ServicePUBLISHED: February 15, 2008I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about leaving home for college. For a long time I had felt ready to move out of the house, but when I got right down to it it wasn't exactly easy. I know a lot of us have been there, but I felt like I was the only person going through this at the time. None of my close friends were going to the same school as me, and I was terrified about how I would fit in, whether I would make any friends, etc., etc. Forget the Freshman 15--I lost 15 pounds when I got to college! The thing was, I didn't want to admit how nervous I was, to anyone. My parents drove me up in our old Chrysler van, surrounded by all my college-bound belongings, and pretty much the whole time I sat in the back, silent, listening to my CD player over and over and over. Particularly this CD, and particularly this song. For some reason it helped me relax and get over my fears (a little bit). My mom commented on how calm I seemed about the whole affair. I laughed, because inwardly I was an absolute wreck. When I hear that song now, it reminds me of that feeling of venturing out into the unknown. Later, when I was riding with the equestrian team, someone switched on this cd on the way to an event, and I had it stuck in my head the whole time I was competing. I would usually get really nervous and tense during competition (bad especially when you're riding a mood-sensitive animal) but I was relatively calm that time around. My testament to the power of music, I guess.Â
