A Welcomed HeadacheLOCATION: The Family Car, Pensacola FloridaYEAR: 1993TAGS: Family, The BandPUBLISHED: February 13, 2008Lots of family trips usually consist of a car packed to the brim with luggage, annoying siblings, and unidentifiable smells. Not so for my family. The reoccuring themes of our trips seemed to be mom and pop food stops, highway bingo, and family sing alongs. In 1993 my family decided to pack up our things in Texas and move to Florida. As my mom drove, my brother and I would sing every song that blared from the oldies station on the radio. My mom raised both of us on the classics. We were tired and it was getting late as we headed out of Alabama and into Florida when a familiar song came on. "When I get off of this mountain, you know where I wanna go. Straight down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico" we belted. That lyric of Up on Cripple Creek was actually quite fitting considering we were so close to the gulf. Not one of us missed a single word as we sang. When the song ended, I looked up and we were passing an exit sign for Pensacola. My aunt Pauline lives there and after our majestic performance we decided to call it a night and stop and see her. For the rest of our move I couldn't get the song out of my head, it got to the point of it being a headache. I definately didn't take any aspirin though I welcomed the headache because it would forever remind me of that family move and the joy we had as a family.
