First I heard the song then I saw the movie.  As a young girl just barely into my teens I was instantly hooked on two things—living in Florida and finding that perfect someone.
I don’t know if all young girls have as vivid an imagination as I did, but for me the song described perfectly how I thought loved worked.  “In a crowd of a million people I’ll find my valentine…”  We would find each other and instantly know we were meant for each other.  From that moment on we would be together forever happily.  Life and love should be that simple.  Time and experience has taught me that neither is most of the time.
Yet whenever I hear this song it reminds me of the times in my life when it was that simple.  The times when my eyes locked with another’s in a crowd and we knew we would share something special—if not for always then at least as long as we both needed the other.  It is one of life’s lessons I’ve learned that people who come into our life for a reason or a season are as important as those who come and stay for longer.  I am indeed one of the fortunate ones because I have loved and been loved many times.  What I find even more miraculous is that twice in my life I have found “in a crowd” the one that wanted only me always.  One truly loved me until death took him away.  I’m now married to the other wonderful man and, yes, I did find him “where the boys are” in Florida.
