Teresa Brewer was a hit in our house when I was young.  My mom loved her voice and was amazed when we saw her on television at how small she was.  My sisters had several of her records which got a lot of play as well.
This song had always reminded me of the dilemma many of the young girls were facing during that era.  Our core values taught to us by our parents were of becoming the sweet girl that any boy would be proud to take home to meet his parents, but the times were changing.  Bobby socks and blue jeans with our hair in ponytails was fast becoming accepted attire for city girls as well as country girls who had long worn them out of necessity.  Waltzes were being replaced by rock ‘n roll.
Teresa’s reflected that beautifully in this song.  I never saw Teresa dressed in anything but fashionable dresses of the times, but every time I hear this song I can picture her in rolled up jeans, Dad’s white shirt tied at the waist, saddle shoes, and bobby socks bopping with her friends to the hit parade.

Tersea Brewer passed away in October of 2007
