Rock without Roll

Most of the time I tell people I quit listening to Rock n Roll music when it lost its Roll.  While that isn't entirely true, it does give you an idea of the limits of my knowledge of "Rock Music" post 1970.  My husband on the other hand loves most of what I call "noise" and I will listen with him on occasion.  So when our sixteen year old grandson, who plays guitar in his own band and loves the same kind of music as "Gpa", came to visit the two of them excitedly went of to a Rock Concert in appropiate gear.

Their rave reviews of the concert mostly fell on deaf ears though I was glad that they had enjoyed themselves.  Later, riding in the car, riding in the car Daniel offered me his IPod so I could hear what he was listening to, which happened to be one of the bands they had seen.  Cautiously I stuck the earphones in and was surprised to find that the music was rather well done, though I still wouldn't want a steady diet of it.

From there a conversation began of current and past guitarists and singers Daniel really liked.  We were home by then and I was pleasantly surprised when he named Jim Croce as one of his very favorites.  Jim is one of my post 1970 favorites that I can listen to almost endlessly.  "Ah yes, I like him too, but my favorite song of his is Time In A Bottle."  Daniel fairly beamed as he replied, "Mine too."

If I could, I would put that moment in a bottle to savor over and over.  That moment when time and music met across a large generation gap.  It helped us both relax more and truly enjoy the week we spent together.
