You can hardly love music without being touched by something that Frank Sinatra did or sang over the course of his long career.  I’m no different.  I grew up in a home that played Frank often, though I will tell you that in our household Dino was the favorite.
His songs touched all of us in different ways at different times.  Among my favorites are My Way, of course, for the sheer fact that represents what we all hope to be able to say about our life in the end.  Another favorite is the light-hearted High Hopes for its simple message that you can do anything if you set your mind to it strongly enough.  I could go on forever, but the one song that I loved most and associated with Frank even though it was done by many other is September Song.  Maybe because I was raised around people mostly older than myself or maybe because, as one lady told me, I have an old soul—it was a compliment by the way, but for whatever reason this song spoke to me even as a youngster of later years and living with no regrets because you had lived and loved life to its fullest all the way.
There are thousands, probably millions of photos, drawings, and so on out there of Frank, but for me in my min he will always look as he does in this shot from one of my all-time favorite musicals Guys and Dolls.
As Bob Hope would say, thanks for the memories.

David said: Frank is tremendous. And as much as American Idol is a bittersweet phenomenon in terms of talent, it should be remembered that Frank was actually a contest winner. I try to remind myself of that whenever AI comes up. (4/15/2008)
