Paradise Defined

It was a fun song with an upbeat tempo and simple lyrics, but from the moment I first heard it, it truly changed my way of daydreaming about where I wanted to live.  I lived in the country with rolling hills and farmland everywhere.  Until I heard this song I was sure paradise would be a large ranch (think Ponderosa) or maybe a hacienda (think Zorro), though I was wavering some after hearing and seeing The River of No Return—still my all-time favorite Marilyn Monroe movie.
The visual image the song produced of an island in the middle of an ocean caught my fancy in a way no other had.  To this day that song defines paradise for me.  I’ve seen  islands in the middle of wide rivers that came close, but I have yet to find the one island that is there in my head.  My laptop desktop picture comes close, but it just as Mr. Ford merely had a picture on the wall, this one is not real to me yet either.  If I ever find that island, I will not hesitate to move there.

I have to add a few words about this artist.  His voice was fabulous and throughout my younger years his songs were staples in my family’s record collections and we rarely missed his weekly TV show.  Though he is no longer with us,  his music lives on.

The video is of his song Mule Train, which holds a special memory for my husband who servied on the USS Marias during Vietnam--this was their song.  I'll leave it to you to make the connection
