Every parent knows that at some point your child is going to embarrass you when they are young, the trade off is that at some point, usually when they are “oh so cool” teenagers you will get to return the favor.  My son and I are very close and we spent a lot of time doing things together when he was in his teens—not always by his choice, but he didn’t have a car for most of that time in his life—so I was afforded ample opportunities to embarrass him.  Surprisingly I don’t recall any stand out times that I accomplished that feat until the day in 1995 when I announced in front of his friends that I liked this song.
“Oh, Mom, how could you," he gasped.  "It’s terrible, gives country music even more of a bad name, and you’d skin me if I brought home someone like that.”
I probably wouldn’t have skinned, but he was right that I would not have been pleased—still the song is fun and I still like it.  It does describe what many men seem to be looking for at certain times in their lives, though it is seldom the type they marry.  I love the music, it makes me want to dance, and the sincerity of the words.  Having since seen this group in concert I can believe that somewhere along the line one or more of them did indeed have a preference for "women a little on the trashy side".

AGBlade2008 said: "at one point"? sorry to disappoint, but all men want it at multiple times. even when they're married, a huge fantasy is that their wife will surprise them hugely by letting out their "trashy side." But don't ever tell your son that, 'cause i'm sure he doesn't want the images. (3/13/2008)
