What a wonderful love song This Magic Moment is, but over the years I’ve found it is so much more than just a love song.  Back in 1969 when it came out I found it sappy and unrealistic.  Moments like that didn’t really happy, I decided, and songs that promoted such were strictly for the naïve and gullible youth, which I wasn’t.  It was a dark time in my life that I’ve explored more thoroughly in other memories and I was pretty cynical at the time.
Less than two years later this same song became a favorite, almost an anthem, for me.  Just like the song says “the moment was like any other until I met you” it happened.  My “you” was the man I would spend the next thirty-three years of my life with.  As the years went by I heard the song less and less frequently, but it always put me in a romantic mood.  Then my husband passed away and romance seemed lost to me, until the night I heard a guy sing This Magic Moment during karaoke at the VFW.
As he sang the song took on a whole new meaning as I realized that “magic moments” aren’t always reserved for love and romance.  Sometimes they are the moments when you connect with another person in a way no other person ever will.  We all have had those moments in life whether it’s discovering a special friend or sharing a moment with a stranger that will never happen again.  When he finished I complimented him on his singing and how good it was to hear an oldie that I loved.
Two magic moments came from that evening.  The singer with a friend has a show now called Yester-Year Dreams and they have performed for me at several functions that I have organized and put on.  They are always a hit and help to make my functions successes.  Though not close, we have become friends as well.  The other magic moment came later as I waited for a friend to get off work and she introduced me to the man to whom I am now happily married.
