Basic Physical Education was a required course for freshman when I started at Michigan State University.  I had elected not to get a bus pass for the fall term because I had fallen in love with the campus and loved being outdoors whenever possible.  Thus, I figured I was getting enough exercise, but there I was doing jumping jacks, sit-ups, and so on for college credit.
I wasn’t impressing the instructor with my lack of enthusiasm, but I was doing all that was required.  About halfway through the term we were informed that half of our final grade would be based on a three to five minute routine set to music that we could and would do every morning.  I wasn’t thrilled, but failure was not an option.
The time came for demonstrating our routines to the instructor and the class for our grade.  We went alphabetically so I was near the last.  I watched and listened to routine after routine set to music that would’ve had me crawling back in bed for more sleep.  Still, the instructor seemed pleased, which had me concerned.
Then it was my turn.  Without looking the instructor started my music.  Imagine her surprise when Let Me Entertain You blared forth, but she recovered quickly and concentrated on my routine.  At the end she calmly asked why I choice that music.  I was honest when I told her it was the only song I knew that would get me up and exercising every morning.  She nodded and smiled.  It worked—I got an A.
