Tears filled my eyes the first time I heard this song.  I don’t always cry when I hear it, but it always fills me with sentimental sadness.  Even now, after playing the selection twice, I find it hard to collect my thoughts amidst the flood of memories it produces.
The memory of my mother springs first to mind.  She, like me, loved yellow roses.  Though she always told us not to waste flowers on her when she was gone, I remember vividly the bouquet of yellow roses, and white carnations on her casket as we laid her to rest on my thirteenth birthday.  I also remember my own plea of “Why did you have to go?”
It’s a plea I’ve asked too many times since as loved ones have passed away long before I was ready for them to go.  My mother and I were just getting to know each other beyond the limits of parent and child.  So much was left unsaid, but when I need her most I feel her presence and hear her words of wisdom even now.
Tradition says a yellow rose means wealth and success, but for me it will always mean, “You’ve touched my heart and soul, I’ll never forget you.”

I picked this particular selection from the various ones listed for this song because it plays the whole song not just a piece of it, and I felt it more fully gave the impact this song always has on me.
