I am and always will be a romantic sentimentalist.  Sinatra sang “fairytales can come true, it can happen to you” and I still believe that.
I was a senior in high school when this beautiful song was being played on the airwaves.  It was also being played by a small group made up of guys from my class and they were good at it.  Since I have always had a soft spot for the saxophone, and one of my best guy friends played one in this group this song quickly became one of my favorites.  Just naming it now brings the melody to mind along with wonderful memories of that time in my life.  It also reminds me of a short story I wrote for English class that earned me an A and a side comment from the teacher about its contents hitting pretty close to home.
In my story, the annual Christmas Ball had a Fairyland Theme and, like Cinderella, the heroine found her prince there.  In reality, the Principal had denied us the theme, the decorations, and wouldn’t allow the small group to play because of a personal vendetta against my best guy friend and me over a small issue we had taken all the way to the school board and won.  Because of that most of the seniors boycotted the dance.
I’ve always like my version better as a romantic, but being one who believes in standing-up for what they belief in the reality version makes me proud.  And we danced that evening to Wonderland By Night at a party the drummer’s parents organized for us.
