Emotional Me

It was sometime in the 70s when I first heard Roger Whittaker’s voice and was taken with his rich baritone and the intense emotion he put into each song all the while making it sound as soothing and simple as breathing.  In the late 70s and 80s my son and I both became avid fans of his songs—not the covers of already classics from others, but the ones he wrote and sang of England such as Durham Town and this one, The Last Farewell.
 This is a song that gets in my head at the strangest times and plays continually until something more pressing takes over.  Saying goodbye to friends or family that I might not ever see again or it will be most assuredly a long time in between will bring this song to mind, but it also comes to mind when I think of plans to reach my ultimate goal of living on or near the water—preferably the ocean.  Other times it will come to mind as I say goodbye to my husband in the morning as he heads off to work.  Most likely it is because in nearly ever case one doesn’t know if this time will be the last farewell. 
 I am as I have always been an extremely emotional person and Roger’s song and voice always affects me deeply with sadness and joy.  His story telling abilities are phenomenal as well.  As you listen you can visualize what he is portraying without visual aids, but for this memory I have included a beautifully done video set to The Last Farewell.
