I loved the movie Dr. Zhivago.  The whole ides of two people loving each other so completely that they would risk everything to be together captivated my romantic nature totally.  While I felt bad for his wife and under other circumstances would have easily branded him a total cad there was inevitability about their love that I felt the first time they saw each other.
Somewhere My Love, also known as Lara’s Theme, always reminds me, not of the flowers blooming and him going to her, but of the Ice Palace where they spent final time together.  It was breathtaking in its harsh beauty.  The biting cold provided a sharp contrast to the warmth of their love.  Though of a different time and a different culture it spoke to me of the kind of love I wanted.
No hardship could quell their love.  No separation, except death, could keep them apart for long.  Just the mention of the song sends the haunting melody running through my mind for hours and the visions of them wrapped in their love against the world gives me the courage to carry on day by day.
That love spanned a lifetime and beyond and touched the lives of so many.  It touched me then as it does now.  Those I were with when I first saw the movie and others since saw only the war, hardship, and the futility of their love, while I saw the beauty and eternity of true soul mates.  In the bleakness of the winter their love warms my soul today as it did then.
