In 1995 I was working forty to fifty hours at a production mailing facility.  After two years it was beginning to get me down with its fast pace and heavy lifting.  Most work days I was lucky to get five hours sleep.  Weekends weren’t much better as I was usually busy catching up on neglected household chores.  While understanding to a certain extent because he worked long hours as well, the whole cycle was wearing thin with my husband as well.
On a rare day off during the week I was cleaning and gathering things for an “errand run” later.  I had received a CD from a club that I hadn’t ordered so was going to return it, but on a whim I decided to play it instead.  The first couple songs were upbeat and funny lifting my spirits as I hummed along.  The next was a bit slower but had a catchy chorus.  It was the fourth song though that sold me on the CD and made me a Confederate Railroad fan.  When they sang “I need some time off for bad behavior, because I’ve been too good for too long” I actually hollered “Amen to that!”
A year or so later I had the good fortunate of seeing them in concert and enjoyed it thoroughly, but it was at that moment when I first heard the song that I made a vow to myself I’ve faithfully kept.  When life piles up to the point that I can’t see over the top I reward myself by doing something I wouldn’t normally do or getting something I really want, but probably don’t need.  Amazingly I can return to that pile and start bringing it down to size with renewed vigor and a positive attitude.
Thank you Confederate Railroad for the perfect song at the perfect moment!

Stephen said: It's amazing how music impacts life in so many different ways...and this is a great example of that. Here's to hoping that pile isn't so high at the moment. (1/28/2008)
