I had walked out on a relationship going nowhere vowing to never look back or go back.  Yet a year later I willingly went back to hear Jack Scott.
My best friend knew I was enthralled with Jack Scott and his music.  She was not alone in that knowledge as I practically wore out his records at home and on the jukebox at the marina lounge which was the central scene for the “nowhere” relationship.  Naturally when she found out that Jack was going to play this small venue on his road to a comeback she called me.  Oh how I wanted to be there, but was uncertain whether or not my husband of six months would want to enter that area of my past life.  I was ecstatic when he agreed we should go.
The night came and we arrived.  One of the lounge owners, Louie, was at the door greeting people and taking the cover charge (something the lounge had never done before).  Tears filled his eyes when he saw me, and he hugged me tightly as he told me how much he had missed seeing me and how he had hoped Jack would bring me back.  It was nice to be missed and I told him so then introduced him to my husband.  He congratulated us then called someone to seat us at his best table near the bandstand.  By the time we made our way through the crowd to the table a bottle of champagne appeared compliments of Louie.
Before the show started several old acquaintances stopped by the table, but none put me more on my guard than the “nowhere” man.  To his credit, he was polite and gracious though when he asked me to dance I was apprehensive.  We were halfway through the dance before he finally whispered how much he missed me and how wrong he’d been in not holding on to me.
Within minutes we were back at the table, Jack Scott was on stage singing Burning Bridges and I knew for sure I really had burned mine.  I never returned to that lounge, but it will always hold special memories for me.  Seeing Jack Scott live was all I had hoped it would be and more.

Jack is still singing and from all reports on youtube sounds as good as ever.  Wish he would come to Florida so I could see him again.  Amazing talent that should have been bigger than he was for much, much longer. Originally from Canada, he made his way into music from Hazel Park, Michigan.
