About this Artist

J. D. Souther

Though he lacked any major chart hits and never achieved blockbuster albums sales, John David "J.D." Souther was one of the key figures of the 1970s Los Angeles country-rock movement. He was part of the duo Longbranch Pennywhistle with future Eagle Glenn Frye, and later a member of the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, a supergroup put together by David Geffen. Souther's songs had a mellow, country twang and classic pop sensibility that made him a go-to songwriter for the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and the Eagles themselves. Though Souther had more of an impact as a behind-the-scenes player, he released several solo albums in his own right, and was planning a new release as late as 2007.
